This is the declaration written after the "Balkan and Turkish Women Meeting" about March 8, 2007 - World Women's Day:
LET US SUPPORT WAR-AGGRIEVED WOMEN CAMPAIGN This is a declaration written after the “Balkan and Turkish Women Meeting” in Istanbul, which was organized on 22-23 Feb 2007 in Istanbul by Turkish Women’s Cultural Association-Istanbul Branch in cooperation with the Netherlands Eurasia Foundation about “March 8, 2007 - World Women’s Day”. The last 20 years have been filled with war, invasion, conflict, terror and assimilation policies in the Balkans, in the Middle East, in Caucasia and Anatolia. The sufferings of Muslim women will be recorded in history as a shameful chapter of humanity. The genocides and both physical and emotional rapes focused upon women and children have clearly happened and continue to happen despite all international agreements concerning the conducts of war and conflict. Western countries that lecture on “human rights and democracy” at every opportunity, as well as international organizations whose sole purpose is to establish peace and justice exhibit double standards. While seeking resolutions condemning Turkish Republic, they both ignore recent genocides taking place before their very eyes. We are dedicating this “March 8, 2007 - World Women Day” to the women and children who try to be heard in Bosnia, Karabagh, Iraq, Afghanistan, Balkans, Chechnya, Eastern Turkistan, Middle East and anywhere else that oppression, suffering and injustice occurs. This is our request to all national and international women’s organizations: Please include activities (at least two) about aggrieved women and innocent children, during your 2007-2008 programs. The stronger and more faithfully we show our sensitivity, the more successful we will be in our struggle against evil and injustice.
